Ramadan comes and goes so fast that often you feel like you weren’t prepared for Ramadan and you haven’t made the best of your time. The last 10 days approach and we begin to feel like the month is almost over and you just haven’t got the best out of it. Life’s responsibilities, struggling with work and Taraweeh balance can be difficult.
So how can you make sure you have the best Ramadan of your life this year? Being prepared and having a plan is key to having the best year of your life. There are lots of ways to prepare for the best and most beneficial Ramadan. But I want to suggest to you that Allah didn’t create Ramadan just for fasting, Iman boosting recitations and reminders. Not even for brotherhood and sisterhood that we all feel and benefit from in the Masjids. NO ! Instead, Ramadan is as Allah subhanahu-wa-tala has described it as a number of days where you have the opportunity to become of the Mutaqun. That’s right, it’s a personal and spiritual growth challenge that Allah has blessed you with.
This opportunity comes all year round, but in the month of Ramadan, you have extra help with the whole Muslim Ummah doing it at the same time.
Look, if you’ve never looked at it like this before it’s fine. Most of us weren’t taught this about Ramadan but it’s better late than never. We will focus on these coming days with the ‘21 Day Closeness to Allah Challenge’.
Allah-subhanahu-wa-tala says about the blessed days of Ramadan in Surah Al-Baqarah:
“Ya-ayuhalatheena-aamanu-kutiba-alaikumusiyam-kama-kutiba-alalatheena-min-kablimuk la’allakum tatakoon”
“The fasting, oh you who believe the fasting it is been made an obligation upon us, as it was made an obligation upon those who came before us.”

This Is Your Opportunity
Why? Because Allah, the Most high says: ‘La’allakum-tatakun’, So that you may become of the ‘Muttaqun’.
The ‘Muttaqun’, these are the people who have ‘taqwa’.
Taqwa, as the explainers of Quran have informed us, it is to be righteous, it is to be pious, it is to be someone who does good and spreads good.
Now, why would Allah subhanahu-wa-tala tell us to abstain from food and drink just so that we can attain this level? In this month Insha’Allah tala we’re going to be talking about some of the most amazing characteristics that the Muslim has.
These are elite of this Ummah. They are the elite of the world so Allah subhanahu-wa-tala says about them:
“Indeed for those people who have taqwa, there is ultimate success.”
What type of Success do You want?
Success is something that we always strive for in this dunya (this worldly life). However, the thing to know is for the Mutaqun success is everlasting. This success that Allah-subhanahu-wa-tala promises us is eternal, so you will get success in this life and you will get success in the Hereafter. It’s a ‘win win’, not a ‘win lose’.
You Are the Best of the People
Allah has made it clear that this month is to nurture ourselves to become the best that we can ever be. Allah-subhanahu-wa-tala says:
“You’re the best of Nations that were taken out from the people”
Why? for the people, ‘linas’. To be exemplary in front of the people, and exemplary in front of the world, we are to be the best of the best.
Now, how are we going to become the best of the best? Insha’Allah this month we’re going to be talking about this every day, we’re going to be talking about different characteristics and how to adopt them and nurture them so that we become the best we could ever be.
So the question to you is, are you ready, are you ready to become the best you could ever be? Are you ready to make these next few weeks the beginning of the best days, weeks and months you’ve ever had?
Insha’Allah tala this month we’re going to be on this journey together. It’s going to be an amazing journey a spiritual awakening, how to actualize our own potential and really, how to become happy. This is what Spiritual growth is all about because the true measure of success is happiness in being connected to Allah. Ultimately even if you’re happy now, to attain the utmost the highest level of happiness Allah-subhanahu-wa-tala has given us this month to cultivate that. So let’s do this.
I look forward to sharing with you insha’Allah.
