The Quran is the foundation of every Muslims faith. Making it a part of your daily life is the primary way of connecting to Allah, along with the five daily Prayers. The two are inseparable.

So how can you learn the Quran and take it a step further to understand the Quran word for word just like you understand this article? There are multiple ways that a person can learn Quran for day to day benefit. In this article we will elaborate on 3 ways to study and learn the Quran so you feel the presence of the divine guidance of Allah in your life daily.  These are:

  1. Learn to Understand the Quran in English or your native language
  2. Learn Arabic – Specifically Quranic Arabic / Fusha
  3. Become a Quran Explorer

Now you’re probably wondering what all this is, especially the Quran explorer so we will go into a bit of detail in this quick article.  Most importantly I want you to know that all of these 3 ways of learning Quran is for the purpose of helping you create a feeling of connection with the Quran insha’Allah and by extension a meaningful connection with Allah.

  1. Learn to Understand Quran in English or your native language

This is the first option because it will be the easiest way to learn Quran as it will require the least effort. However, don’t underestimate the power and value of understanding Quran in your own language.

There are more than 1.8 billion Muslims in the world from almost every country in the world. That’s around a quarter of the world’s population.

Allah created all of humanity sent the Quran a revelation to the whole of mankind, so it’s not possible that he would exclude Muslims or different languages from the divine guidance.

Arabic is the primary source of revelation and you will find that there are Islamic scholars, Imams and teachers from every nation who have learnt Arabic and are working to relay the Message of the Quran in their respective languages.

So, before you have learned the Arabic language, benefit from the various translations or the Quran, the books that have been written explaining and extracting the lessons. And of course, the Quran classes you find online and offline.  Get started, don’t delay it till you understand Arabic.

I say this because many who don’t know how to read fluently or don’t understand the Arabic feel like they have to wait till they have mastered Quran reading and Tajweed (correct pronunciation) before they can actually study the meaning of the Quran.

That’s a trick from the Shaitan, he wants to delay us from understanding the Message of Allah so that he can lead us astray. Don’t delay and don’t procrastinate, get started and learn Quran now.

  1. Learn Arabic

Learning Arabic is the best thing you can do. As I mentioned already there are people from every corner of the globe who have studied Arabic language, specifically ‘Fusha’ the Classical Quranic Arabic. People don’t learn Arabic so they can become teachers or scholars, they learn so they can understand Quran in the language of revelation.

Understanding the Quran in Arabic is the closest you can come to connecting to the words of Allah in this world. We all know that the Quran is the direct words of Allah, the Most High. So, when you understand the Quran in the Arabic language you will feel as though Allah is talking to you directly.

You will not feel like you need a middle man translating it for you. The connection and word for word understanding of the Quran is the most profound feeling that anyone can experience.

Much of the time when we feel alone, or troubled by our obstacles and challenges in life, we want to feel reassured that things will be ok. When you understand the Quran word for word in Arabic, that’s the closest one can come to feeling that reassurance and confidence that things will be ok.

Sounds strange and not something that people like to talk about openly because it’s very personal and private. But Allah, the All-Knowing knows your inner most thoughts and feelings.

Being a non- Arab and someone who now teaches people how to understand Quran in both English and Arabic, I can tell you that it has transformed my life. I can’t explain the difference it has made in my life and the life of those around me Alhamdulilah (All praises to Allah alone).

Allah says categorically that whoever believes in Him, His Guidance, then He will surely guide their heart.

يُؤْمِن بِاللَّهِ يَهْدِ قَلْبَهُ ۚ وَاللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ وَمَن

“And whoever believes in Allah, He will guide his heart. Indeed Allah is aware of all things.”

Surah At-taghabun, v.11

That’s the most beautiful thing, your Creator will be your guide, the One who gives you peace and a contented heart, even if the world around you is in a storm.

Once you know the language then you can do whatever you want with it, it opens up a world of opportunities, the most important of which is your connection to Allah.

By the way at this point I feel it necessary to inform you that learning Arabic can be done the easy way or the difficult way, Read the following article where I explain the way to Easy Arabic.

  1. Become a Quran explorer

Now you’re probably wondering what does that even mean, and I’ll tell you that every Muslim needs to take a journey with the Quran. We need to explore the Quran for the guidance that we personally need from it.  Let me explain…

The Quran is like a constitution for life. A Map and a source of guidance for all people, of all types of responsibilities and positions in society. That means that Allah is addressing the Leader of the Community, the Leader of the Country, the Politician, the Military leader, the teacher, the Parent, the youth and so on.

Everyone is addressed in the Quran, and there are many verses that won’t make sense to you and I because we all have different roles and responsibilities within our society.

So, exploring the Quran means we need to learn the meaning of the Quran beyond just a translation or the surface level meaning.

The most important lessons in the Quran are universal lessons, and they are the majority of the Quran. These lessons and sources of guidance are to helping humanity to become the best that we can be. Personal growth and development is one of the primary goals of the Quran after worshiping Allah alone.

This is why the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him ) said:

إنما بعثت لأتمم مكارم الأخلاق

“Certainly, I have been sent to perfect the character”

This is my goal with Quranic Connection Academy, and all the lessons, articles and videos that I share on this site. It is all to learn, teach and become the very best Muslim I can be, to add value to the world, and help you by sharing the practical Quran lessons.

So how can you become a Quran explorer? It’s actually very simple.

You can study the Tafsir of the Quran. Tafsir is what we know in English as Quran exegesis. It is a detailed explanation of the verses of the Quran, which can be Quran explaining Quran, or the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (Pbuh) and his companions explaining it. There is also Tafsir, linguistic, Legal Jurisprudence and Reflective tafsir. All of these different types are and should always be based upon the Quran and Sunnah.

Studying the Understanding of the Quran through this type of study is the deepest level of Quranic study one can undertake. Alhamdulilah today there are many classes of tafsir given in many different languages so even if you have not learned Arabic you can still study the Quran in this way.

So, what’s the benefit of this type of Quran studies you might be wondering still? There are lots, but the most fundamental benefits that you should derive from your Quran studies is that you learn how to understand the Quran and apply it at a practical level in your daily life.
