Everyone suffers from some type of fear, so you’re not alone. Allah has created us with a natural inbuilt fear that is there to protect you from danger, however, much of the time the fear is exaggerated and psychological.
So how can you overcome your fear? The Quran teaches us a beautiful lesson and guides us back to the Allah to extinguish fear. Your fears will subside and disappear in the face of a great power. Fear is something conjured up by the mind, and it has physical and emotions reaction which no one enjoys. So, the Quran gives us a very simple solution in the following verse. Simple answer, follow the guide and you lose your fear of the unknown.
Before we get into the detail of how I got rid of my fear and how you too can do it, I just want to tell you that there are some fears that should exist and they help us.
Fear of Allah, or fearing his punishment – this will help you stay away from sin. Allah is the Most Loving ( AlWadud) and He is the Most Merciful (Ar-Rahman), but we humans are all different. Some times we just need some fear to motivate us not to do bad. The punishment of the Law of the land is there for the same reason, to stop us from breaking the law. Sometimes that’s all that works.
Fear of Hell, is definately one that Allah describes in detail. Again it’s meant to be a deterent to prevent us from transgression and oppression.
Apart from this the rest of the fears we suffer from are often negative and Allah shows us how to deal with them. So let’s get into it:
Allah says:
And go down from it, all of you. And when my guidance comes to you,and whoever follows my guidance, they will have no fear, nor will they grieve.
Surah Al Baqarah, Verse 38.
In this Verse Allah teaches us many things, but we will focus on just a few to keep it simple.
Fear of Darkness
I want to give you two parallels that will demonstrate where fear comes from. Fear of Darkness is a common fear that all humans have. It’s natural to fear the unknown, what you can’t see. Children suffer from this the most, and some adults even live into their adulthood with a fear of darkness.
Second parallel is when you travel to a new place where you’ve never been before, you are in unfamiliar territory, a place where you don’t know what to expect. Especially if you travel with your family or your prized belongings you will become very wary, very cautious and even fearful in that situation. Again this is the fear of the unknown, and worry because you have a lot to lose if anything goes wrong.

When we experience fear in any circumstance, the same emotions and fears are haunting us. It’s the fear of loss, harm or lack of safety in the face of the unknown.
Allah swt has created us this way and both of these examples demonstrates the fear we feel when faced with uncertainty. Because that’s what the unknown is, something that we have no certainty about.
You see the fear is a natural reaction, a physical and emotional experience which is meant to keep you alert and on guard. Historically it would keep you safe from real danger or being attacked by wild animals or any impending harm.
Today we are plagued with fears the mind conjures up, from feelings of the same lack of security, loss or harm. In anticipation of something we are unsure about we become paralysed by our fears. Thinking about the future is a good example of this.
It causes anxiety, stress and even pushes people towards depression and the feeling of despair.
What if you where to travel to a new place, but this time take a guide with you that knows his way round. Someone that knows all of the possible problems you could face, any loss of security, money or loss could be avoided. Would you feel safe? Of course you would. Now that you have someone taking care of you, showing you and leading through your journey, you feel safer and the fear begins to disappear.
Allah tells us in this verse that He is your guide. If you follow Him and His guidance then you will no longer feel that fear.
The Most Powerful, Allah is the one that would guide you and protect you, so you would feel safe. And in the face of such power there would be nothing from this worldly life that could possibly harm you.
So Allah swt says: when my guidance comes to you, so whoever follows my guidance, they will have no fear or sadness.
All you have to do is follow the guidance when it comes to you.
How do you follow Allah? Follow the Quran and Sunnah. The Quran is the direct guidance from Allah, and the Sunnah of His Messenger (saw) will show you exactly how to live in accordance to the Quran.
It’s really that simple.
If you’re thinking it’s not, ask yourself, “Am I really following the Quran and Sunnah?”
Or “Do I actually understand this Quran?”
Or “Have I even spent time to learn what it means?”
Or “Do I make Dua, expecting that Allah will never answer me?” because that’s actually very common
Or even ask yourself, “Ok I’ve spent time studying it, But do I actually live according to it, and really Trust Allah? “
Look the likelihood is that one of these will be at play, and that’s ok. The first thing we all need to understand is where are we falling short. This is self-awareness and it’s important so that we can see what is really happening.
Once you recognise what the problem is, you know where you are now, and you know where you need to go. Now begin the journey, and make those changes.
Don’t forget Allah the Creator of the universe is telling you that if you follow the Guidance, the Quran, then you will conquer your fears.
Watch this quick explainer video where I actually talk about this video, insha’Allah it will make sense.
Choice is your Saviour
فَمَن تَبِعَ هُدَايَ فَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ
Allah presents the simple solution, Devine Guidance.
The Quran is the how-to manual for life. If you follow it, your fears subside because you know the Guide, Allah himself will take care of you.
But, Allah won’t force you to follow it..
That’s right, He swt gives you a choice. He swt says that if you follow it you’ll be ok.
No more fear and no more sadness…
But if you don’t then you will remain in the darkness of the mind, the darkness that you’re experiencing. It’s all a matter of choice.
Problem many people face is that they don’t want to give up something for something greater.
Desires will lead you to the world, guidance will lead to on top of the world. Many times we can’t see it and we just continue to follow the crowd.
Life is your choice, things don’t just happen to you.
Your choices influences what happens even if you can’t control everything.
Make the best out of life by making the best choice. Follow the Guide, understand the Guide, study the guide and get the best out of your journey and reach the Best Destination, Jannah insha’Allah.
I believe Allah created us to be amazing, so all we need to do it take the steps towards Him because safety is will Him. Fear will disappear when you understand the Power of Allah. Allah is on your side so make bold decisions and take your life to where you want it.
You can do this..
